Japan developed a new catalyst technology to reduce the price of fuel cells

Nisshinbo cooperation with the Tokyo Institute of Technology, developed the use of carbon instead of expensive platinum as a catalyst for fuel cell technology. Platinum carbon catalyst for the one-tenth of the cost, can be used in automotive fuel cell costs about 40 million yen. The two companies will establish the technology before 2009.
